Rating: Eggs Royal

London brunch review - THE LUXE. Eggs, I wanted eggs. That was for sure. And to be honest with going for brunch at 2pm the meal had rather turned into a late lunch than anything else, but with only a coffee from Brick Lane in my stomach and a Bank Holiday ahead I thought I’d rather further fill it with something hearty - just in case later on the glass turned into many glasses and the many glasses turned into a bottle. And the bottle turned into… well, you know that game ;)

No matter from which side you approach “The Luxe” it never disappoints. Coming from Commercial Street a big flag demonstrates its gastronomic presence and a few small tables invite you to sit outside facing the morning sun with the “Early Bird” offers from the menu served every day from 8am on weekdays and 9:30am on weekends. They include the classic morning glories like croissants, butties, porridge and healthy and refreshing yoghurt with fruits and granola – all for a very reasonable amount of money.

Speaking of healthy – besides the wide range of coffee and tea being served one of the highlights of a brunch at The Luxe is their smoothies, milkshakes and juices – especially the latter clear up your head immediately so that you can focus on the day ahead of you J

You can also enter the American diner style interior of “The Luxe” from inside Spitalfields market. Outside tables right next to the stalls and a bar where you can also order takeaways welcome you to spend some good times there from the wee hours till late. (Please be aware that there is also a bar in the basement, a brasserie on the 1st floor and a private room for up to 30 people on the top floor.)

Let’s return to the eggs now though! Besides having a wide selection of dishes including eggs (the classics like Eggs Florentine/Benedict/Royal, Scrambled Eggs with Smoked Salmon, The Full English and Poached Eggs on Toast) you also get Extras and Add ons to choose from to create your perfect brunch. Since I have a weakness for creamy mushrooms I ordered hash browns and one egg as extras and heaven on earth arrived (see picture).

The waiters are super-friendly and even the weirdest combination you want on your plate doesn’t seem to put them off. All orders arrived very fast and I was asked more than once if I could be helped with anything else.

The people on the table next to us dug into juicy burgers, creative sandwich combinations and big salads and each of them had a Bloody Mary in hand. I hope it supports their recovery from the night before; I stick to my nutritious fresh fruit juice…

… join me the next time: Go for brunch, London!

And shhh - this is a secret recommendation: no matter what else you are craving for definitely order the Sweet Potato Wedges on the side!!!
